Counseling for Highly Sensitive People in Los Gatos, CA
Your whole life you have noticed that there is something different about you, but you weren’t sure what it was and you weren’t sure if it was a good thing. Maybe you were called “shy” when you were younger. Maybe you were seen as “too emotional” because you didn’t respond the same way to a situation that other people in your family did. There was this subtle questioning in the back of your mind—why am I like this? As you got older, you learned how to put on your game face and show the world what they wanted to see, but it took energy and you noticed that you were more tired than your friends. You started wondering why other people were able to handle things better than you were. You needed more alone time, and as you sat by yourself in your dark, quiet room, the question you were afraid to ask would show up: is there something wrong with me?
You start to evaluate the evidence in your mind
I am always tired
I don’t like loud, crowded places. How many times have my parents been irritated that I needed to leave a restaurant instead of enjoying a nice, long dinner?
People always seem to want to make plans, but that sounds awful to me when I’m overwhelmed…which feels like all of the time right now.
I feel so much all of the time
I can feel other people. Like when I walk into a room, I can tell who is upset and who isn’t. Is that weird?
As the list goes on, you wish so much that you were different…that you were normal. If only someone understood and could help you understand yourself.
My name is Kristen, and I Can Help
Together we figure out what helps you feel your best and how to best care for yourself outside of therapy so that you experience calm. I will suggest books to read and things to try outside of therapy (like, meditation) so that you can learn and try things on your own terms when you are ready and can see what works for you. Therapy becomes the place where you can take your mask off and really be seen…and it feels really good.
